Sealants are a very good preventative measure for children that display a risk for cavities. 

 

Pit and fissure cavities (or chewing surface) account for approximately 80-90% of all cavities in permanent back teeth.  The sealant can reduce the risk of cavities in your child’s back teeth.  

 

Your child’s cavity risk may increase at any time during their life due to changes in habits (diet, home care, etc), so subsequent unsealed teeth might benefit from the sealant application.
